Friends and loved ones joyfully celebrated Mr. Innocent and Mrs. Onyiyechi Ezennia, who welcomed quadruplets after 13 years of marriage, thanks to In Vitro Fertility (IVF).
The Assembly of God Church Isolo 1 in the Isolo district of Lagos State echoed with screams of delight and fervent praises during the church dedication ceremony for the babies in February. The atmosphere was filled with harmonized singing, lively instrumentals, and spirited dancing, reflecting the powerful positive energy present.
For the Ezennia family, who had faced an inexplicable fertility problem for 13 years, this was a monumental breakthrough. Grateful for the mercy of God, Mr. Ezennia quoted First Samuel chapter one, verse 27 of the Bible, expressing gratitude for the fulfillment of their long-awaited desire. Frances Chidi Okereke, the retiring pastor with 47 years of ministry, advised the couple to remain strong in their faith and pass it on to their children.
In an interview, Mrs. Ezennia shared her challenging journey, including contradictory advice received due to her childless status. Despite 13 years of waiting, the couple remained resilient, guided by their Christian faith. Mrs. Ezennia recalled the pressure from peer groups and friends, the conflicting recommendations, and the emotional toll it took on them.
She highlighted the financial strain and restlessness during their desperate search for a cure, exploring various avenues, including doctors, prophets, traditional pharmaceuticals, and other drugs. Despite the discouraging success rate mentioned by the doctor regarding IVF, the couple chose to pursue it, relying on their belief in God's intervention.
Mrs. Ezennia encouraged other couples not to lose hope, emphasizing the intertwined nature of faith and perseverance. Holding her bundle of joy, she shared her ecstatic feelings, stating that it was a dream come true. She expressed gratitude for the financial assistance received, especially for meeting the requirements of the babies in the hospital.
