The video begins with the new mother, Lyndsey, gently picking up her son, who weighed only 680 grams, roughly the size of her hand, just four days after his birth, which was 15 weeks premature at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. The baby was covered with wires and looked incredibly fragile, evoking empathy from anyone who watched.
With the help of nurses expertly managing wires and medical equipment, Lyndsey settles into a chair and cradles her tiny son against her chest. A smile briefly graces her face before she is overwhelmed by the moment and tears of joy stream down her cheeks. This emotional scene is just one of many in the couple's roller coaster of emotions following their son's premature birth on July 16.
Most of the medical equipment is gently removed from the baby and swaddled in a diaper.
On one particularly challenging day, Ward unexpectedly opened his eyes and looked directly at his parents, a moment that was captured in a photograph. He appeared to convey, "I'm fine! Don't lose faith in me." This moment became a symbol of hope and resilience.
A true miracle occurred. After spending his first 107 days of life in the hospital, Ward Miles finally went home on October 31.
Mr. Miller expressed his gratitude, saying, "It was such an amazing feeling to have him home, where he belonged. The family's ability to cope with their ordeal was made possible by the love and prayers of family, friends, and supporters, some of whom they had never met. I want to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff worldwide who make it their life's mission to help babies get better. It's because of you that my son ever stood a chance to make it home."
Ward is no longer tube-fed; he can hold the bottle himself.
The heartwarming video touched many viewers, with one person stating, "THIS is why abortion should be illegal. What a beautiful video. I am a new father myself, and I couldn't imagine life without her. I hope nobody saw me crying at work. lol. God bless them, and I hope they have many more years together."
Another person shared their experience, saying, "My son was only 2 weeks early but spent those two weeks in the NICU with severe respiratory problems. I cannot imagine what these parents went through, but I'm happy their son is doing well. Enjoy him every day."
